Texas is a right to work state. Individuals cannot be forced to pay union dues as a condition of employment. Government should not be responsible for providing payroll deductions in order to help unions collect dues from their members. That is an administrative and political activity, which uses time and taxpayer funded resources. We believe that paycheck deductions are an inappropriate use of government resources and not a role of government. Unions and associations should have their own staff, time, and resources to collect their own membership dues – not be allowed to do so at the expense of taxpayers.
SB 1968 addresses the proper role of government and it is only fair to require the unions to do their own fundraising and dues collection.
We at Americans for Prosperity-Texas support SB 1968 by Sen. Huffman.
