AFP- OR Stand with Oregonians: Reject Unaccountable Tax Hikes
Protect Working Families from Unfair Financial Burdens
Although the TRIP transportation funding package was defeated in the Oregon Legislature, concerns remain that it could be revived in a special session called by the governor. The proposal includes a wide range of tax and fee increases such as higher gas taxes, new delivery and tire taxes, and increased vehicle registration and payroll taxes, intended to raise billions for transportation infrastructure and to bail out the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). Critics argue that the plan places an unfair burden on working families and small businesses, especially given ODOT’s ongoing issues with mismanagement and lack of accountability. At the same time, efforts to weaken or eliminate Oregon’s Kicker law continue, threatening a key taxpayer protection that returns surplus revenue to the public. Continued public engagement is essential to ensure fiscal responsibility and protect Oregonians from unnecessary financial strain.
