I am writing to express my deep disappointment in your recent decision to veto several critical provisions from the 2026–2027 state budget, including those related to Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), the REINS Act/JCARR oversight mechanisms, property tax reforms, and the elimination of special tax carve-outs.
As a constituent who values fiscal responsibility, educational opportunity, and transparent governance, I find these vetoes disheartening. The General Assembly worked diligently to craft reforms that would have provided meaningful relief to Ohio families—especially those struggling under the weight of rising property taxes. Your decision to block these efforts not only undermines that progress but also sends a troubling message about the priorities of your administration.
Your veto of the property tax provisions, in particular, is difficult to reconcile with the very real and growing burden that homeowners across the state are facing. These reforms were designed to bring fairness and predictability to a system that has become increasingly unsustainable. Similarly, your rejection of the REINS/JCARR provisions weakens the legislative oversight that is essential to maintaining a healthy balance of power in our state government.
Moreover, the veto of ESA expansion limits the ability of families to choose the best educational path for their children—especially those in underserved communities. And by preserving special tax carve-outs, the budget continues to favor entrenched interests over everyday Ohioans.
I urge you to reconsider your stance and work with the legislature to restore these vital reforms. Ohioans deserve a government that listens to their concerns and acts in their best interest—not one that protects the status quo at their expense.

Over the last 6 months, activists like you have used your voices to empower and influence Ohio’s 136th general assembly to ensure many of our Buckeye Blueprint priorities were put into the 2026-2027 state budget. On June 30th, 2025, Gov. Mike DeWine item line vetoed ESA’s, REINs/JCARR provisions, property tax provisions, and special tax carve outs. With one stroke of his pen he disregarded the voice of the people he governs.
