I urge you to support H.R. 4002, the Patient Access to Higher Quality Care Act by Representative Beth Van Duyne, to lift Medicare’s restrictions on physician-owned hospitals. At a time when health care affordability is a top concern for families and employers alike, Congress should be removing barriers to competition—not protecting entrenched systems.

Current law prevents doctors from opening or expanding physician-owned hospitals, limiting patient choice and reducing competitive pressure on large hospital systems. Allowing physicians to invest in and operate hospitals would expand access, encourage innovation, and help bring down costs through greater efficiency and specialization.

If a lawyer can own a law firm, a doctor should be able to own a hospital. Patients deserve more options, not fewer—and policies that foster competition are essential to building a more affordable, patient-centered health care system.
