Thank you for your vocal opposition to House Bill 2827 – the Homeschool Act.
As you know, the Homeschool Act would force homeschooling families to submit an annual “Homeschool Declaration Form” to the Regional Office of Education listing each child’s name, birthdate, grade, and address, plus any additional data the State Board of Education demands. It also retains the “Education Portfolio” requirement, allowing a truant officer to demand student work samples, curricular logs, and parent assessments at any time, without limits on scope or frequency. Failure to do so would result in a truancy investigation and referral to the State Attorney’s Office for “further action”.
These invasive regulations deter families from homeschooling altogether. Thanks to your efforts, Illinois remains a place where homeschool innovation can flourish.
