End Provider Tax Scam in Medicaid!

Medicaid is meant to be a lifeline for our most vulnerable—children, pregnant women, the elderly, and the disabled. Yet, it has turned it into a system ripe for exploitation, draining federal taxpayer dollars. One of the most pervasive problems is the practice of provider taxes, a scheme that even President Biden called a “scam.”

States overpay providers with Medicaid dollars, claim inflated federal reimbursements, and then collect a portion back through taxes on those same providers. This leaves both the state and providers with extra cash, all while federal taxpayers foot the skyrocketing bill.

Thanks to this loophole, Medicaid payments can be double those of Medicare! The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that eliminating this wasteful practice could save taxpayers $700 billion over the next decade.

It’s time to fix this broken system. With budget discussions underway, now is the moment for bold action. We must end this racket.
