Protect Homeschooling Freedom in New Jersey
Stand Against Overreach and Preserve Parental Rights in Education
New Jersey has long been a beacon of educational freedom, granting parents the right to homeschool their children with minimal state interference. However, recent legislative proposals threaten to undermine this cherished liberty by imposing burdensome regulations and oversight on homeschooling families. These bills introduce requirements like mandatory registration, health and wellness checks, and increased scrutiny of home education programs, framing homeschoolers as potential risks rather than dedicated parents. Such measures not only erode parental rights but also create unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles for families who choose to tailor their children’s education to their unique needs, values, and beliefs.
Homeschooling in New Jersey thrives due to its flexibility, which allows parents to provide instruction equivalent to that of public schools without excessive red tape. Research consistently shows that homeschooled students meet or exceed academic benchmarks, proving that freedom, not control, fosters success. New Jersey’s high rates of bullying and harassment in public schools—7,672 confirmed HIB incidents in 2021-2022—highlight why many families choose homeschooling for safety and personalized learning. Yet, these proposals shift focus to regulating parents instead of addressing systemic issues.
