Ohio should have more options in education
Redlining
and other racist policies meant that the poor and marginalized among us were
limited in their housing options, and therefore also trapped in public schools
that underperform other public and private options. Universal Open
Enrollment would mean that parents and families can escape these barriers, and
schools would be accountable to improve their services for all.
Zip
codes, neighborhoods, and income levels should not keep kids from accessing the
education they need to fulfill their dreams, match their abilities, and
overcome their challenges. Public schools need to extend universal open
enrollment to drive equitable access, overcome the legacy of redlining, and
empower parents to choose the best school for their children regardless of
where they live.
